Rick and Lori with children Nathaniel, Alexander, and Mira
I was born in Portland, Maine on September 17th, 1959. We lived in Yarmouth for a short time then moved to Falmouth. We moved to Cumberland before I started school and I attended the SAD-51 school system and Graduated from Greely in 1978.
During my senior year I joined the Navy in the delayed enlistment program and started my Navy career in July of 1978 starting Boot camp in Orlando. Upon completion of my training I returned to Portland as a home town recruiter before reporting for duty as a Supply/Budget analyst at the Naval Telecommunications headquarters in Washington D.C. While there I applied and was accepted to attend the Naval Academy Prep school in Newport R.I. Upon graduation I reported to the United States Naval Academy and joined the class of 1985. After graduation I reported to the USS Raleigh as the Communications officer. I became the Machinery/ Boiler officer and then the Main Propulsion Assistant. While on the Raleigh, I completed 1 Mediterranean cruise and 2 Persian Gulf cruises. I then reported to Bath Maine and was assigned the ASW officer of the USS Monterey CG-61. I was then transferred and became the Tactical Advisor to the Royal Saudi Navy.
I left the active Navy in 1993 and joined the reserves. I became a Financial Advisor in Stamford, CT for Merrill Lynch and moved back to Maine in 1994. I was recruited by Morgan Stanley in 2001 and worked there until a companywide downsizing in November of 2002.
I remained in the Naval Reserves and retired as a Commander in 2003.
I started Maine Indoor Karting in January of 2003 with my wife and we have operated the business in Scarborough Maine until July 2011 when I received an appointment as the Director of the Bureau of Labor Standards for the State of Maine.
As the Director I was able to transition the Bureau from operating in a deficit to saving the State money by realigning the workforce, relocating the Safety Center to Augusta and reducing the demand on State funding.
In January 2013 I returned to the private sector back at Maine Indoor Karting.
I live in Yarmouth with my much better half Lori and we have 3 children, Alexander 11, Nathaniel 11, and Mira 9.
At any time of the day you may see me out and about with my kids- catching a community sporting event, or even perhaps just the simple pleasure of enjoying an ice cream. Because…doing things together is important. I understand that instilling my values in my children is critical to raising responsible and happy young adults.
Rick served in the Navy for 26 years.
